If you recall Kliavkoff officially took over for the embattled Larry Scott on July 1, 2021, right at the time that college football went from a silly sport to certifiably insane one. Corresponding with his start date, the NCAA permitted all student athletes to profit off of their Name, Image and Likeness but provided very little in the form of rules and guidelines. The sport was also rocked when Texas and Oklahoma decided to leave the Big 12 and enter the SEC plus a new 12-team college football playoff format was announced and then quickly shot down and fought over for several months before ultimately being shelved.

They also take a look at what Kliavkoff had to say in one of his many “year in review interviews,” this time with friend of the podcast Jon Wilner where he talked about changing the entire collegiate model, how the conference had a bit of a COVID hangover that isn’t finished yet and the better communication between the conference office and the individual campuses.

The guys also discuss the change at the top of the Pac-12 power structure, the Big 12 reportedly finding their next commissioner, the ACC releasing a new division-less football schedule for 2023 and Pac-12 teams involved in some of the most anticipated games of the 2022 college football season.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods take a look at how each of the Pac-12 football rosters have changed over the past six months with players leaving and joining programs through the NCAA Transfer Portal. Our friend Chris Karpman from SunDevilSource compiled this massive list that shows all of the additions and subtractions for each of the Pac-12 squads. Five of the 12 programs in the conference ended up with top-25 transfer classes, trailing only the SEC for most teams in the top-25 with six.

They also take a look at the upcoming Pac-12 media rights deal and discuss how the upcoming Big 10 deal could have a major impact on which options commissioner George Kliavkoff could have access to in order to finally boost conference revenues.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods discuss the newly released early season Pac-12 television schedule that includes several high profile matchups against traditional powers from other Power Five conferences. It could be an incredible showcase for the Conference of Champions if the teams from the West Coast are able to notch a few notable victories or it could be a mitigated disaster for commissioner George Kliavkoff and the Pac-12.

They also take a look at the Pac-12 bowl schedule for the 2022 season that includes the rare January 2 Rose Bowl. The five bowls line up well for the Pac-12, getting to face a local Group of Five opponent from the Mountain West in the Los Angeles Bowl followed by four bowl games facing opponents from the other four Power Five conferences (Las Vegas vs. SEC, Alamo vs. Big 12, Sun vs. ACC & Rose vs. Big 10).

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods discuss a report by Jon Wilner that shows how the conference revenue fell significantly in 2021 thanks to the shortened COVID-19 football schedule in 2020 that saw most teams only play a handful of games. Wilner points out that the shortfall over the next four years will be significant, dropping the Pac-12 below the ACC into last place and leaving EACH Pac-12 program earning more than $100 million less than schools from the SEC and Big 10 over that span.

They also take another look at the conference’s decision to remove division winners from the Pac-12 Championship game and they debate what scheduling changes can be made for the future including a pods system that would group the Pacific Northwest, California and Mountain/Desert schools together and a “flex” schedule that could leave a couple of weeks open at the end of the season for games arranged on the fly. Dave even throws out a World Cup model where the conference holds group play for three weeks and then have programs advance from there into a mini tournament.

247Sports came out with new NCAA Transfer Portal rankings and Ryan and Dave see where the Pac-12 teams are ranked and which top-100 players the conference picked up.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are both on the podcast, just not at the same time. The show starts off with Ryan diving into all of the news and notes around the conference and college football starting with the emerging SEC head coaching feud between Alabama’s Nick Saban and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher. Saban accused Fisher of buying all of the players in the Aggies’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class and Fisher responded by calling Saban a narcissist that was lashing out because he’s the college football czar that didn’t get his way. Absolutely wonderful college football content in the middle of May.

The big conference news came from commissioner George Kliavkoff on Wednesday when he announced that the Pac-12 Championship Game would no longer feature the top program from the North facing the top program from the South, instead opting for the two teams with the best conference winning percentage regardless of what division they reside in. This new rule would have altered the championship game participants in 5 of the last 11 seasons.

Ryan also addresses the breaking news that Biletnikoff Award winning wide receiver Jordan Addison pulled the trigger and picked the Trojans for his final season in college football.

Dave finishes off the show answering all of the listener questions from the past two weeks plus he talks about the report that stated Chip Kelly’s offensive play cards while at Oregon were meaningless, used only for a distraction for the opponent.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods give a detailed recap of the final two Pac-12 spring games in the conference, California and Washington. Cal is looking at Purdue transfer Jack Plummer to potentially replace POC favorite Chase Garbers while Washington has a three-way QB battle going on to ring in the new Kalen DeBoer era. The guys also breakdown how the conference did in the NFL Draft (not well) with the fewest picks since the conference expanded to 12 teams. UCLA led the way with six players selected and even though Oregon sent the most players to the NFL Combine, the Ducks had just one player selected (though he did go No. 5 overall).

Unfortunately there is more turmoil to talk about at Arizona State with freshman All-American linebacker Eric Gentry leaving for division rival USC and potential All-American defensive tackle Jermayne Lole also hitting the NCAA Transfer Portal. ASU AD Ray Anderson also had some hypocritical things to say about cracking down on cheaters in the conference at the Pac-12 spring meetings according to a report by friend of the pod Bruce Feldman.

There is also discussion about Biletnikoff Awarding winning wide receiver Jordan Addison entering the transfer portal and USC’s involvement in trying to get him to relocate to Los Angeles.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods give a detailed recap of the bevy of Pac-12 spring games held over the weekend. Half of the conference had various versions of their spring games/practices televised on Saturday with UCLA, Utah, Colorado, Oregon and Washington State on the Pac-12 Networks and USC on ESPN. It was a magical weekend for Ryan, getting to watch so much spring football in one day, and a dreadful day for Dave who had to cover UCLA’s spring practice in person.

The guys dive into the NCAA Transfer Portal, talking about Jon Wilner’s piece on the portal winners and losers in the Pac-12. They also preview the NFL Draft and talk about the four Pac-12 players that are projected to go in Thursday’s first round. 247Sports put out their post-spring top-25 poll and three Pac-12 teams made the cut plus beleaguered NCAA president Mark Emmert has announced he will step down next year (if not sooner).

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods breakdown the newest batch of bad news for the Arizona State football program, two prominent players choosing to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal following the conclusion of spring football. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (ASU’s top receiver and originally from Tempe) and linebacker Eric Gentry (consensus freshman All-American) have both decided to enter the portal. From SunDevilSource’s Chris Karpman: “They would have been two of the team’s most important players. Things are going from bad to worse for the Sun Devils.”

They also recap the lone spring game for the Pac-12 this past weekend, the Oregon State Beavers. OSU still three healthy quarterbacks now, giving last year’s starter Chance Nolan some competition in practice. The Beavs also have a more aggressive defense under new defensive coordinator Trent Bray. Coming up this weekend there are six more Pac-12 spring games: UCLA, Utah, USC, Colorado, Washington State and Oregon will all be in action on the Pac-12 Networks (except USC will be on ESPN).

Finishing off the show the guys discuss two articles featuring Pac-12 programs this week, the fall of Colorado’s football program over on the Athletic and USC head coach Lincoln Riley talking about life throwing him a curveball over on the Players Tribune.

This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods dive into spring football in the Pac-12 with Arizona, Arizona State and Stanford all hosting their spring games over the weekend shown live on Pac-12 Networks. To be fair, David hates spring games so it is mostly Ryan giving his thoughts on what he saw from the broadcasts, read in the recaps and heard from the players and coaches who talked about how the spring session went. Arizona and Stanford combined for just four wins in 2021 but there is still a lot of optimism on both campuses that these programs can turn things around and have a winning campaign in 2022. Arizona State went 8-5 last season and lost more than half of its coaching staff and its star quarterback Jayden Daniels, but there is optimism in Tempe as well with talk of more team chemistry than ever before for Herm Edwards’ squad.

They also discuss the lone upcoming spring game for the Pac-12 this weekend, the Oregon State Beavers which will be live on Pac-12 Network on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT. Speaking of the Beavers, they missed out on the top remaining quarterback in the NCAA Transfer Portal, former USC and Georgia gunslinger J. T. Daniels. West Virginia won the sweepstakes to land Daniels, so Oregon State will either stick with one of the quarterbacks on the roster or find someone else from the portal before the beginning of May deadline.

Which Pac-12 school has the best tailgating experience? A listener wrote in with his thoughts so Dave and Ryan chime in talking about what they like to do on gamedays at the various Pac-12 schools.
